As we celebrate WDAF's beginnings in 1949, we asked Kansas City kids to write a letter to students of 2049 for our time capsule.  Here are excerpts from some of the essays we received: you might be surprised by what kids will remember the most about 2009.

Satchel Paige pitches for the Kansas City A's

Satchel Paige was signed to the Kansas City Athletics for one game in 1965.  On September 25, Paige pitched four innings for the A's, and the 59-year-old spent his time between innings sitting in a rocking chair.

WDAF's Color Cameras

Ned Soseman was an engineer at WDAF from 1967-1976 and again from 1981-84. In an email sent to FOX 4, Ned shares some early WDAF memories:

"Some of the first things I did was help remove the B/W cameras and install the first color cameras in the studio and unload the truck that delivered parts for the new tower.

"Attached is a photo of a page from US News and World Report, March 26, 1973, page 14. This is a full-page RCA TV ad featuring Jim Schmidt, WDAF (AM-FM-TV at the time) chief engineer."
